Berlin, a Birthday and a Beautiful New Partner: Hotel Palace Berlin

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending a few unforgettable days in Berlin, combining a little bit of business with a birthday celebration.   After 30 years (yes, I was just a teenager when I last visited!), I welcomed the opportunity to stay with one of our newest hotel partners,  Hotel Palace Berlinand since it was my husband’s birthday too, he came along.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear why this property is a standout addition to our portfolio.   What a brilliant location – sandwiched between the Zoo and the leafy Tiergarten and the bustling Ku’damm shopping boulevard, all the historical sites are within walking distance, although after 5 hours of walking on Day 2, our feet were a little bit sore!

Arriving late on aforementioned husband’s birthday, check-in was speedy and birthday cake and champagne was waiting for us in our stylish bedroom with views across to the park.

Celebrations continued at the hotel’s signature restaurant Beef 45 which is sleek, intimate and served up one of the best fillet steaks we’d ever tasted (and there have been a few…).  Tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection!

It would’ve been rude not to sample a cocktail from the House of Gin with its 150 varieties – spoilt for choice we went with our friendly sommelier’s recommendation of Costwold Gin – delightful!

The next morning it was down to business with a comprehensive site inspection of the hotel with the lovely Nadine, Director of Sales.  Ideal for corporate events, the extensive meeting facilities can accommodate everything from high-stakes board meetings to a cocktail for 900 in the elegant ballroom.   For offsite cocktail events, the Pan Am lounge next door to the hotel has a cool retro feel and panoramic views of the city.

Early May is asparagus season in Germany and we indulged in a local speciality for lunch – white asparagus served with hollandaise and potatoes – yummy!  The experienced team is very friendly and helpful – relaxed and knowledgeable, just how we like it!

Our timing in Berlin coincided with a bank holiday, commemorating the end of World War II.  We enjoyed strolling through the park and visiting the historic sights including the Berlin Wall which used to separate East Berlin from West,  and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.  The city has evolved enormously since my last visit and has so much to offer for events.
